awards

Over the years, Atwood LawnCare has been given several national and local honors. This is a wonderful tribute to the hard work and positive attitudes of the members of the Atwood team. We work hard to earn the respect of every customer. When our peers notice us for this effort, it is very rewarding. But the true importance of these awards is in your ability to have confidence that Atwood LawnCare employees are true professionals capable of making your lawn and landscape the best it can be.

The National Award for Professionalism

Presented for the first time in 1986, by ALA (the precursor to Lawn & Landscape) this was the first award ever given on a national level to a lawn care company. Although, the Atwood team was young at the time, we were already getting noticed for our level of professionalism. Several noteworthy companies received this award in subsequent years, but Atwood was the first.

The President's Award for Leadership & Service

Presented by the Metropolitan Detroit Landscape Association (MDLA) in 1994 to Tim Doppel, Atwood’s President. This was the first time that the President’s Award was presented to an individual. Prior awards had all been given to companies or organizations. Tim was honored for taking a significant leadership role in the lawn and landscape industry. In accepting the award, Tim commented that only by having a well-trained professional team behind him could he have the time to be as involved as he is.

The Nation's Most Influential And Visible Green Industry Professionals

This was the first time that Landscape Management magazine had tried to identify the most influential people in the lawn and landscape industry. A total of 25 lawn care industry leaders were named in 1996 with Atwood LawnCare being the only one named in Michigan that year.

The Environmental Improvement Award

In 1996, the Professional Lawn Care Association of America (PLCAA) recognized the efforts of Tim Doppel and Atwood LawnCare in their ongoing effort to educate customers and the lawn and landscape industry to options in using less fertilizer and pesticides without sacrificing quality. By authoring a training manual called Healthy Landscapes for A New Century, Doppel offered a comprehensive view of plant health, IPM, and healthy alternatives to plant pest problems. Most, if not all of these alternatives, are common place practices for Atwood technicians on Atwood LawnCare customer's lawns and landscapes.

Environmental Leadership Award

Atwood LawnCare’s tradition of receiving an award in its inaugural year continues with the 1999 Environmental Leadership Award from Lawn & Landscape magazine. This is also our second recognition for our contribution in the environmental arena. Proper use of fertilizers and pesticides is a critical part of the on-going training that all Atwood employees receive. We do our very best to educate our customers as to options that exist for them to help maintain their lawn and landscape with minimal inputs of fertilizers or pesticides. This is all our world, and we all need to do our part to keep it green and healthy.

The Picture Perfect Lawn

"A picture is worth a thousand words." In a contest sponsored by Lawn & Landscape magazine and the Professional Lawn Care Association of America (PLCAA), Atwood LawnCare won recognition from fellow lawn care professionals. During PLCAA’s Annual Dinner at the 2000 Green Industry Expo in Indianapolis, Ind., attendees were asked to look at a series of pictures and to vote for which lawn looked the best. And yes, we won! How nice when other lawn care professionals feel our work is the best out there. We were very flattered and appreciate the recognition. Be sure and read the article that was published about our work.

Environmental Communicator Award

As a result of many years of writing articles for The Landsculptor, the monthly journal of the Michigan Green Industry Association, Tim Doppel, President of Atwood LawnCare was nominated and won the Environmental Communicator Award in May of 2001 from the Turf and Ornamental Communicators Association (TOCA). "I enjoy spending a few minutes each month to share a little something I feel is important with fellow professionals", said Doppel.

Tim writes articles that encourages other lawn and landscape professionals to follow the existing laws, increase professionalism, to provide superior customer service and to improve the quality of life in our society. Often written with humor and always with a point, Doppel has received many compliments and accolades from his readers over the years. "But to have other professional writers and editors select you as one of the best is a real honor", said Tim.
